Hi! My name is Isaac Privett and here I am getting out into the world, exploring new things, and establishing the identity I will have for the rest of my life. I am starting this blog to inform people about the trials and tribulations of growing up in todays world and making decisions that will affect me for years to come.

Chicken...

Well, there has been alot of talk about chicken by a couple people that have posted about chicken. Since you seem to like checken so much, you might wanna read this. It is a write up by the FDA that I have found.

Chicken wings and turkey drumsticks are almost as ingrained in American culture as apple pie and baseball. But the lip-smackin', finger-lickin' good taste is less palatable when the poultry makes people sick. Even harder to swallow are germs that don't respond to drugs that may be prescribed to fight the sickness.

New evidence that drugs used in poultry can cause antibiotic-resistant infections in consumers spurred the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) to take action. On October 31, CVM proposed to withdraw the approval of an antibacterial, Baytril (enrofloxacin), used to treat disease in chickens and turkeys. CVM approved Baytril in 1996. Made by the Bayer Corporation of Shawnee Mission, Kan., Baytril belongs to a class of antibacterials called fluoroquinolones, which have been used in humans since 1986.

Shortly prior to CVM's announcement, Abbott Laboratories of North Chicago, Ill., requested withdrawal of the approvals for its poultry fluoroquinolone products. This means that Abbott will voluntarily remove these products, trade name SaraFlox, from the market.

The Bayer Corporation has requested a hearing to present safety data to try to keep Baytril on the market. The company must submit all data and analysis to support consideration for a hearing by January 2, 2001.

Poultry growers use fluoroquinolone drugs to keep chickens and turkeys from dying from Escherichia coli (E. coli) infection, a disease that they could pick up from their own droppings. But the size of flocks precludes testing and treating individual chickens--so when a veterinarian diagnoses an infected bird, the farmers treat the whole flock by adding the drug to its drinking water. While the drug may cure the E. coli bacteria in the poultry, another kind of bacteria--Campylobacter--may build up resistance to these drugs. And that's the root of the problem.

People who consume chicken or turkey contaminated with fluoroquinolone-resistant Campylobacter are at risk of becoming infected with a bacteria that current drugs can't easily kill. Campylobacter is the most common bacterial cause of diarrheal illness in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It's estimated to affect over 2 million persons every year, or 1 percent of the population.

Eat more chicken I guess.

More on Smoking

Well, from the comment made on my earlier entry on smoking, I can see that people don't actually see the real dangers of secondhand smoking. I will post up some information that I have found on the subject. First we have some information from the Canadian Health Network:

Other substances - the "tar" component

About half of the 4,000 chemicals in tobacco smoke are found naturally in the tobacco leaf. The other half are created by the chemical reactions when tobacco is burned. A few more are added during drying, and for flavour. Many of these chemicals together form a sticky black residue known as "tar."

Here are just a few of the more dangerous poisons in tobacco smoke:

acetone
ammonia
arsenic
benzene
cadmium
cyanide
formaldehyde
lead
mercury
nickel
phenol
styrene
toluene

I dont know about you guys, but I don't want these chemicals in my lungs. Here is an article from June 2002 by BBC news http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/2053840.stm:

Exposure to second-hand tobacco smoke increases the risk of developing lung cancer, international experts have said.
A working group from the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is part of the World Health Organization, examined all of the major studies looking at smoking and cancer.

After a five-day meeting in Lyons, France, this week, they suggested non-smokers who are exposed to second-hand smoke are between 20% and 30% more likely to develop lung cancer.

It can't hurt you eh? I may be saying things, but it says here that people exposed to secondhand smoke are 20-30% more likely to develope lung cancer. Here is a fact from American Lung Association:

Secondhand smoke causes lung cancer and other health problems. The EPA estimates that secondhand smoke causes approximately 3,000 lung cancer deaths and 35,000 heart disease deaths in nonsmokers each year.

That is 38,000 people that died in one year from something that you say can't hurt you! I doubt 38,000 people were sitting in rooms with big clouds of smoke as you guys have said that needs to happen for it to be harmful. I can go on and with more and more references. When it boils down to it, your secondhand smoke that you put out with your cigarettes does harm others. Maybe you will rethink your stance on the issue?

The Latest Peace Movement

I came across one of the most bazaar protest themes today. It was a masturbate for peace protest which I don't know how these two go hand in hand (no pun intended). The people that thought of this up just seemed like they are bored and have nothing else to do or they wanted to find a good reason to masturbate more. Anyway you can read their reasons for such a campaign. They seem rather lame to me, but someone else may wanna join. Who knows? Here is what their site says. I will not post a direct link (the address is at the bottom of the entry. note the warning before going to this site.) due to one bad parody picture that is rather vulgar. I am only posting this because I find this very ammusing and I really hope it is a joke.

From Love Comes Peace: The Power of Self-Love

We've entered a time of wars and rumors of wars. Threats of terrorism and mass destruction have filled the world with fear and brought us perilously close to worldwide conflict.

There's no greater antidote for war than love. Feelings of hatred and distrust form the necessary basis of armed confrontation. Replace those negative feelings with love and you're halfway towards resolution of any conflict.

However, any real love must start from within. You can't love others without loving yourself first. And, of course, masturbation is the greatest expression of self-love. So it's natural that we, the citizens of the world, are joining together to masturbate for peace.

As we begin with this act of self-love, we encourage others to do the same, to take pleasure in life and to share masturbation's positive energy with a world in need.

Joining the Movement

Joining this movement is simple. Just masturbate in your own way, focusing your thoughts and energy towards love and peace. Encourage others to do the same. Also, please fill out the petition below and tell us how you intend to masturbate for peace. We will share the most thoughtful petitions on this site.

This is an international movement for peace. So far we have received over 13,500 petitions from 90 countries and all 50 of the United States.

Note: As hostilities have begun in Iraq, we encourage you to masturbate for a quick resolution to this conflict with a minimum of casualties on all sides

The web address is this http://masturbateforpeace.com/. WARNING: There are some vulgar slogars and a vulgar parody picture at the bottom.
