Mess on the net

Well, I frequent message boards very often and read many things about many subjects. Yesterday I read something new that I have yet to read. I saw a thread titled Suicide so I click on it to read what is within. I read about a young girl state her intent to commit suicide and she was asking for the best ways to do it. This definitely threw up a red flag. I read some of the replies and most were saying that she was young and that she had the rest of her life to experience. No one seemed to take any initiative to help and that bothered me a little. The main consensus of the other member was that what could they do to help. I had a short debate with another member the promptly emailed her ISP to see if they can find her and send her help. I gave them my phone number and all I could do is wait. It made me wonder why I cared so much for someone I have never met and know nothing about. I went to bed last night and of course the situation was on my mind. I woke up this morning and the situation was on my mind. I go to classes and the situation was on my mind. All I could think about is whether they found her in time or not. I get back to my dorm room after class and hurriedly log into the message board. Maybe there will be a post concerning whether she is ok or not. I click on the thread and am overjoyed that there is a post by the same girl that started the thread. Unfortunately her reply wasn't very grateful but I can live with that as long as she is ok and getting help. Her reply was:

Some fuckin asshole called the police on me last week. They came to my god damn house today asking me if im alright. Stupid fuck heads. Now i gotta go to couseling and take fuckin medication shit for my anger. They said someone called in and said that ive been in a site posting shit about wanting to hurt myself. That pisses me off so fuckin much. OMG! Now I hate EVERYONE even more than I already did. I trust no one. I talk to no one. I listen to no one. Thanks a lot, asshole!

Well, now that I knew she was ok I decided to let her know who the "asshole" was that sent people so that she wouldn't hate everyone and she could just hate me. Her reply was:

Fuck you..

A few minute later when I'm going back to my usual routine of surfing, the phone rings. I answer the phone and it is a lady from Comcast on the other end. She was a nice lady and she was calling to thank me for bringing this situation to attention before something bad happened. She said the girls father was ecstatic that someone sent help before something horrible happened. After hearing that, I felt a little better that some people were happy with what I did. She told me that police reached the girl 20 minutes after receiving the email. I have to say kudos to Comcast for a speedy location of the girl. She asked me my age and then said that my parents should be very proud. So all in all it turned out well and for that I am happy. Maybe some day the girl will look back and be grateful for what I did but if not, I think I can live with that.

Crash Course In EU Politics

I have been selected for a important position within the UN. I have been selected to be a judge of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). Well, not the real ECHR but close enough. I have ended up joining model UN by accident. It kind of fell in my lap in 2 days but I don't mind at all. I am actually a little excited about what's to come. Thursday I am traveling to Washington DC to take part in a model UN conference. The trip itself sounds like an adventure and I'm sure if it is worthy of mentioning then you will be hearing about it soon. Anyway, I now have three days to learn as much about the European Union and the ECHR that I can. I walked into the library last night and was handed five books to read today. Of course I wasn't expected to read the whole of each book but it still is a daunting task. I am going to give it my all and see where this path leads me. Everything happens for a reason and if this model UN thing has come together so quickly for me, I am going to work my hardest. Who knows where this will lead me.

Talent

I have heard a very interesting argument in and out of class recently. The basis of the argument is that every human starts off with the same abilities and everyone can reach the same potential. Now this all sounds great but I don't really buy it. There are several examples that lead me to believe exactly the opposite is true. Look at autistic and prodigies for example. They definitely do not have the same abilities from birth but seem to be very specialists in what they excel at. Some autistic children are very good at math and can do some amazing calculations that for some it would take several minutes at the calculator. Whereas, many prodigies excel in music and the arts. They seem to posses great skill from the start and can do amazing things as they progress. Do we all start out with the same potential? I don't know but it would seem otherwise.

Decisions

Whenever you are faced with a decision you have decide which would be the best decision to make in order to have the best effects. It just depends on the person on what is the criteria for the best decision. Some people choose the one that best suits themselves, some people choose the decision that best suits other people, and some people choose the decision that best fits themselves and other people. What the right choice is I cannot say. No one can ever say whether a decision is god or bad except the person that made that decision. Unfortunately, there are many people that are quick to judge a decision by their standards. This won't work in the end because everyone's standards are very different. If everyone made the same decisions then the world would be a very boring place. Remember to think outside the box. When you are faced with an important decision, the only choices are those that are obvious. Almost no decisions are final. If it has an effect that you weren't going for, reevaluate it and try again until you get the desired effect.

Rain

I have always wondered why people consider a bad day to be a rainy day. Why does rain get such a bad rap? I have always associated rain with a clean slate. The sidewalk can be covered in chalk but rain will come and you are left with clean sidewalk. Rain also means growth. Look out at a barren wasteland before a rain. You will see that afterwards that seeds germinate, trees will bud, and lakes and pond will fill. With all these great things that happen with rain why is it associated with the bad? Rain is a new beginning!

The Axe Effect?

Yesterday evening I was out on a mission with two friends to get some ice cream and I was at the grocery store. I had my payload of Ben and Jerry's and was about to go to the checkout isle when my two friends being the girlie shoppers they are go to look at all the deodorant hat was for sale buy-one-get-one-free. I walk over and see that they have a bin full of Axe deodorant bodyspray. Now if you have ever seen the commercials, you would be naturally as curious as I was. The commercial shows a typical nerdy guy getting into an elevator (nothing like me I'll have you know!) and a beautiful woman walks in with him. The doors close and it cuts to the doors opening on the other floor. When the doors open the guy has lipstick all over his face, his clothes and hair are all messed up, and he is grinning ear to ear. The girl is adjusting her skirt, her hair is messed up, she has a smirk on her face, and she leaves the elevator.

After recalling this provocative commercial, my interest was piqued. So being a good consumer I read the back of the can and am surprised to read. CAUTION: Habitual use of axe could lead to seriously close encounters. I take off the cap and smell the two scents they have in the bin and they smell very nice. I then decide to hand it over to my friends. Since they are female, their opinion of the smell is all that matters. They said "Wow this smells really good" and I'm thinking "Sold!" I pick up two cans and decide I could go for wearing something smells nice. I go and hang out for a while and decide to put the Axe effect to the test in the morning.

I wake up this morning and spray the stuff on all the hot spots as the can directs and set out to class fully prepared to fight off the the massive attack as the girls throw themselves at me. I get to class and notice nothing has happened. Well, a girl did sit beside me but that is nothing to the effect of the commercial. In fact, it is mid day and have yet to experience any of these seriously close encounters! Oh well...I never really expected it to work and really didn't want it to work, but the stuff really does smell nice. If you are looking for a nice change of smell then I would recommend Axe. It may not work like the commercial but does have a pleasing scent. You never know. You may have a different experience then me.
