Communism

I have been reading some of Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto and I can help but wonder about such a system of government that I know so little about. When growing up, children are taught that communism is bad, yet that’s as far as it goes in most cases. Most people don't know exactly what communism is besides the negative appeal being thrown out by the US educational system. I was overjoyed to finally learn a bit about communism and what it really stood for.

Marx wrote much about the struggle between classes and the oppression the Bourgeois, the upper and ruling class, hold on the Proletarians, the lower working class. Marx thought that in a capital system where the Bourgeois gain large profit off of Proletarian labor was just ludicrous. He felt that it was unfair that the Bourgeois performed no labor yet gain the bulk of the profit. I can see where he is coming from when I read this, but I think he is looking at it by one point of view. He feels that labor deserves much more of a pay off then other forms of work. He believed that there is only one thing that distinguishes man from any other organism and that is labor. In fact, he wrote, "What men are coincides with the objects they produce." So in essence Marx looks at man through an economical point of view and that is the bulk of his ideology. How then did Marx purpose the Proletarians to gain control of the power? Revolution of course. Marx predicted a great revolution by the Proletarians and that they would gain control of the state. For amusement purposes, I will pretend that we are Proletarians. Ok, we now have the state this is where Marx pulls in his ideas of communism.

First of all, we must get rid of this capitalism nonsense. It doesn't work because there are too many greedy scumbags out there making profit out of our work. We are also forced to hold jobs that we don't enjoy just to make money and to hold a living. Let us get rid of that. Ok now that that is gone, we must get rid of the state. It is run by corrupted Bourgeois and we can no longer have that. Now that the state is gone and that we don't have to work cruddy jobs, we are all set right? Well, we still need people to work and we can't make only some people work, so we will have everyone hold a job. They won't work for money, but to provide their services to everyone and everyone will just share. Wait a minute...What about the jobs that no one will want to do such as a janitor? Well, we need to get rid of the Bourgeois mind set so that there will be no social stigmas placed on certain jobs due to low income because now there will be no income at all. We will also put in job rotations so that everyone will get to work jobs they enjoy. Now we have our communist society with everyone sharing and we are all getting along.

This all sounds like a perfect world to many and that makes it very pleasing to alot of people. Especially young "liberals" from what I have noticed. The problem is that this system fails to account for human nature. If man was only defined by labor, then it would work, but we are not. We have qualities such as greed that get in the way. This system also hampers innovations and creativity so in essence you would get a stagnant culture. This is all a shame because it sounds so good on paper. Communism could never work on a large scale.
